چکیده

Studies have been made of the factors affecting the specificity of the interaction between high molecular weight dextran sulphate and low-density lipoproteins, both in pure solution and in serum. The results have been used in the development of a simple assay method for the serum concentration of low-density lipoproteins in small volumes of serum. The results obtained by this assay procedure have been found to correlate acceptably with parallel estimations of low-density lipoproteins by an ultracentrifugal technique and by paper electrophoresis. The technique has been applied to a survey of serum levels of these proteins in a normal population. The results have been compared with data in the literature. Satisfactory agreement was found between mean levels, matched for age and sex, between the dextran sulphate method and those methods based ultimately on chemical estimation of one or more components of the isolated lipoproteins. A systematic difference was observed when the dextran sulphate method was compared with estimates based on analytical ultracentrifugation or turbidimetry using amylopectin sulphate. Some indication of the range of application of the dextran sulphate method in clinical chemistry is provided.

An Investigation of the Relationship between Beta-2 Microglobulin (β2M) and Inflammatory Factors (Serum Levels of CRP and Albumin) and High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) in Hemodialysis Patients

Background and Objective: Beta-2 Microglobulin (β2M) is a middle molecular weight uremic toxin. Lack of β2M removal leads to β2M accumulation and amyloidosis in hemodialysis patients. The present research aims to determine the relationship between β2M and inflammatory factors, such as C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin, and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in hemodialysis patie...

Use of sodium polyanetholesulfonate-CaCl2 for removal of serum nonspecific inhibitors of rubella hemagglutination: comparison with other polyanion-divalent cation combinations.

By using trypsin-treated human type O cells as indicators, we compared the abilities of four polyanion-divalent cation combinations (heparin-MnCl(2); high-and low-molecular-weight dextran sulfate-CaCl(2); and sodium polyanetholesulfonate [SPS]-CaCl(2)) for removal of serum non-immunoglobulin (lipoprotein) inhibitors of rubella hemagglutination. The combination of SPS-CaCl(2) was found to be the...

Effects of different culture densities on growth performance and stress, immune, and metabolic responses in rainbow trout

Determining the optimal culture density is necessary to improve fish performance and profitability. A total of 1350 rainbow trout with an average initial weight of 30±1.5 g were obtained. Then, the fish were randomly distributed in 12 fiberglass tanks and reared at densities of 15, 30, 45 and 60 kg/m3 for 60 days. The final weight, weight gain, and protein efficiency ratio were significantly hi...

Dextran sulfate precipitation and ultracentrifugation of lipoproteins from hypercholesterolemic dog serum*

Dogs fed a diet containing butter, cholesterol, and thiouracil develop severe hypercholesterolemia. Both a p and 8-lipoprotein cholesterol and phospholipid increase whereas these lipids in the a, fraction appear to decrease. Comparison of the dextran sulfate-precipitable lipoproteins with lipoprotein fractions obtained by ultracentrifugation a t densities 1.019, 1.063, and 1.21 and with paper e...
